Rio Tinto is a leading international mining group headquartered in the UK. Rio Tinto's business is finding, mining and processing mineral resources. Exploration and discovery have been the driving force behind our business for nearly 140 years and the Rio Tinto Exploration (RTX) mandate is to grow our value by discovering or acquiring resources that can increase future cash-flows. The objective in RTX is the safe delivery of, on average, one Tier 1 discovery per annum. This is achieved through the effective application of Geoscience techniques and processes, taking account of Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC), economic, commercial and political factors. RTX operates as a global, integrated business comprising four regional exploration teams, a Project Generation Group and three global support teams (HR, Finance & Compliance and HSEC). The work environment covers the full spectrum of geographic areas and time zones. It comprises a wide variety of countries, cultures, language groups, environments and jurisdictions. It requires operation in co-located and virtual teams, in field and city locations, supported by effective collaboration, relationships and engagement. Exploration Africa - Eurasia is building a strong professional team in Kazakhstan to undertake the safe prospecting and technical evaluation of multiple exploration projects. Exploration activities include geological prospecting, mapping, and drilling operations; complemented with community and environmental characterisation work. In complementing this team an opportunity exists for a Field Project Operations Technician based out of our Almaty office . MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE Directed by the Programme Manager, the primary purpose of this role is to coordinate and deliver operational, logistical and HSEC support to enable safe and effective field exploration programmes. JOB OBJECTIVES (80%) Operational Delivery: Provide field operational, logistical and HSEC support to the Programme Manager or their delegate Implement field inspections, interactions, monitoring and reporting to ensure compliance with Company systems and initiatives 20%) Regional Effectiveness, Individual and Team Collaboration, Improvement Focus and People Focus Anticipate potential project risks, implement mitigation actions, monitor and report on results Identify and pursue opportunities to improve operational, logistical and HSEC practices KEY REQUIREMENTS Key requirements for the role include: Relevant qualification/certification related to mining and exploration, or HSEC, or similar specialist fields (e.g. environmental science, social sciences, occupational hygiene, medicine or occupational safety) Ability to work rosters in remote locations in the field with the project teams during field season Ability to work Monday to Friday in Almaty office, out of field season Knowledge of requirements relevant to a field based exploration environment with the ability to implement set work procedures, and impart requirements on field personnel. Coordination and organisational skills to assess project needs, plan and coordinate a variety of operational, logistical and HSEC support tasks to achieve objectives. Fluency in both Russian and English Ability to work well in a team with good interpersonal verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff Advert closes 4th June 2017.
