It is preferred that the Machinery Engineer is qualified to Degree level, in an Engineering discipline. General knowledge in pressure vessel and rotating equipment application engineering used in the following technology is recommended: Cryogenic Air separation and liquefaction Cryogenic hydrocarbon and natural gas separation and liquefaction Helium recovery, purification/liquefaction Adsorption separation/purification systems Steam-methane reforming High-temperature catalysis Absorption systems Partial oxidation/gasification CO2 purification/liquefaction Experience in equipment manufacturing and testing Experience in machinery and equipment installation and start-up Site refinery and/or chemical plant facility experience Must have thorough knowledge of engineering practices and economic principles, calculation methods. design details, international codes and standards, procedures, and specifications. Have knowledge in the use of industry wide design software packages. Bring experience to suggest new economical ways in designing the work – identify problem areas in the work practices and suggest improvements based on feedback and own previous experience.

To support the operating facilities in addressing emergency problems on the rotating equipment. This requires technical knowledge and experience related to the equipment and the ability to make decisions in a pressurised environment to ensure what is done is safe, cost effective and protects the asset. To support the operating facilities in addressing longer term problems with rotating equipment. This, again, requires technical knowledge and experience related to equipment. It also requires the ability to prioritise work and work to deadlines. The solutions have to be safe, cost effective and meet all codes whether intermal or external. To look at ways to improve the reliability, efficiency and safety of the rotating equipment so that operating and maintenance costs can be reduced. To support the review and selection of new rotating equipment for operating facilities owned by Air Products within the European region. This is to ensure the equipment meets the requirements of safety and cost effectiveness in terms of reliability and efficiency.

The role requires understanding of key engineering principles to troubleshoot rotating equipment issues and resolve them effectively. In addition there is a key drive to reduce operating costs; the rotating equipment is a major element and the role requires the development of innovative ideas, with the help of Continuous Improvement tools, to do this.
