Team / Division Description Research and Development (R&D) in Europe is responsible for the planning, the development and the production of attractive, superior quality cars matching European market requirements. R&D aims to strengthen the Toyota brand in Europe. TME Drivertrain & Hybrid design departments’ responsibilities are: • Design & evaluation of Manual T/M (Transmission) and Hybrid T/M. The team’s task is to improve T/M’s in the Powertrain system in order to optimize fuel consumption, cost, weight of vehicles as well as improving their driveability. • Local development of drivetrain parts for vehicles built in one of Toyota’s European assembly plants. This activity is done in close cooperation with our European suppliers and our mother divisions in Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) in Japan. TMC relies on us to develop components that are matching European customers’ expectations and European suppliers’ production methods. • Investigation of new European technologies. After investigation we make and propose concepts for application in future vehicle projects Your Responsibilities • You will contribute to Toyota drivetrain systems improvement for the European market. • You will challenge the design for future Toyota driveability development. As an engineer in Drivetrain & Hybrid design division, your main responsibility will be: • The development of Drivetrain components: • During the prototype phase, you drive the development process of locally-developed parts. You need strong engineering skills to support the suppliers in their development. You make sure the development is finished in time and meets all Toyota’s requirements. For parts developed in Japan, you are the liaison between our mother divisions in TMC and other European parties (assembly plants, suppliers). • During the production preparation, you make sure production parts achieve expected performance levels and support the plant in assembly of our components. • To investigate new European advanced technologies in your responsible area. You have to research upcoming EU technologies, initiate pre-development studies, and propose the technology for application in Toyota’s future vehicles Your Profile • You have a master degree in Mechanical engineering, Automotive is an asset. • You have 3 to 5 years experience. • You must be able to understand, analyse and make technical drawings and technical specifications and conduct basic engineering calculations (Mechanics, FEM,…) • You must be a self-organiser and work efficiently together with other divisions, TMC and suppliers. • You have a genuine interest in Automotive. Knowledge of Powertrain and Drivetrain systems is an asset. • You have an open personality, able to work in an independent way, hands-on mentality, out-of-box thinking. • Required computer skills: 3D DWG software (Catia/Pro-E or other), Word, Excel, Power-point. • You are fluent in English (TME business language) while other EU languages and Japanese are an asset. • You have a valid drivers license.
