CHHU Research and Project Assistant (Part-time) Department: Cultural Heritage and Humanities Unit (CHHU) Report: Acting Director of CHHU Duty Station: Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan Deadline: 05 March 2024 UCA Background: The University of Central Asia (UCA) was founded in 2000 as a private, not for profit, secular university through an International Treaty signed by the Presidents of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, and His Highness the Aga Khan; ratified by their respective parliaments, and registered with the United Nations. The Presidents are the Patrons of the University and His Highness is the Chancellor. UCA’s mission is to promote the social and economic development of Central Asia, particularly its mountain communities, by offering an internationally recognised standard of higher education, and enabling the peoples of the region to preserve their rich cultural heritage as assets for the future. UCA brings with it the broader commitment and partnership of the Aga Khan Development Network. For more information: www.ucentralasia.org The Cultural Heritage and Humanities Unit (CHHU) was launched in 2013 to generate new dialogues on Central Asian heritage and identity. Its Cultural Heritage Book Series features seminal works on music, traditions, archeology and regional histories, giving voice to regional scholarship. CHHU also engages with communities of interest to address issues facing contemporary cultural production and cultural institutions while preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Central Asia. Summary of Position and Key Responsibilities CHHU seeks a dedicated and qualified Research and Project Assistant to support CHHU in implementing its projects in the fields of culture, art, and other related projects. Research and Project Assistant will work under the guidance and supervision of the CHHU Director and perform tasks related to extensive data collection, analysis, reporting, and event organization. Main Duties and Responsibilities Assistance in event planning and organizing Ability to travel and support to the organization of the conferences, workshops, and business trips to Kyrgyzstan regions Event documentation and analysis Administrative support to the project team, which may include tasks such as scheduling meetings, coordinating logistics for research activities, and maintaining project documentation. Data collection and analysis in the context of Cultural Heritage and Art Literature and policy reviews related to Cultural Heritage and Art Writing and Editing: Depending on the project, the assistant may be involved in writing and editing research reports, articles, or other publications. This could involve drafting sections of reports, formatting documents, and proofreading for accuracy and clarity. Technical Support: In some cases, research assistants may provide technical support for research equipment, software, or other tools used in the project. Possible occasional travel to Naryn, Khorog and/or Dushanbe Other reasonable duties as requested by Director of CHHU Required Qualifications and Experience BA or MA degree in Communications and Media, Art, or related fields. Familiar with MS Office applications and organizational software. Knowledge of statistical/other professional software would be an asset. Fluent in written and spoken English and Russian; knowledge of Kyrgyz or any other Central Asian language would be an asset. Good interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in dealing with people from different backgrounds in a day-to-day context.
