Research Support Manager Department: Office of Research and Development (ORD) Reports to: Director of ORD Duty Station: Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan Deadline: Open until filled Summary of Position and Key Responsibilities We are recruiting a Research Support Manager to play a vital role in the Office of Research and Development to help build institutional research infrastructure and provide high level research administration to the UCA’s academic staff, with a particular focus towards identifying opportunities, supporting applications and developing proposals for research-oriented grants. The Research Support Manager will be responsible for identifying research funding opportunities, supporting the development of high-quality proposals, managing grants, and supporting relationships with academic partners and research sponsors. Additionally, the Research Support Manager will be responsible for the administration of capacity building trainings for faculty and researchers and supporting research dissemination events. S/he will work primarily with UCA’s Graduate School of Development and School of Arts and Sciences. Main Duties and Responsibilities Development and Design of Research Programmes and Institutional Policies: Under the supervision of the Director of ORD, develop institutional research support strategy, relevant policies and help build research infrastructure; Develop and implement strategies and activities for increased research and publication outputs by applying to research grants as well as supporting the design of new research programmes, including but not limited to, faculty research grants, new Research Fellowship (Post-Doctoral, Visiting etc) and other related programmes; In collaboration with the Director of ORD and the Deans of GSD and SAS, support collaborative research projects with the University’s partners and establish new cooperation with relevant research institutes and donor organizations; Prepare budget forecasts of ORD’s activities, and take charge of proper documentation and implementation of the departmental policies and procedures; Administration and Management of Research Projects: Identify and share information on research funding opportunities; Check funding compliance and advise on funding requirements, eligibility criteria and timelines; Provide administrative support to researchers to apply, including drafting of non-technical proposal components, review and critique of technical proposal components, and assistance with budget development; Support research collaboration with other institutions, including drafting of letters of support, undertaking of due diligence, etc; Submit research funding applications on behalf of the University; Upon grant award, ensure the effective management of research grants and adherence to reporting requirements by researchers; Prepare and submit narrative reports (monthly, quarterly, final) and act as a focal point between donors and faculty members/researchers; Upon completion of research projects, conduct internal evaluation of projects highlighting lessons learned and effectiveness of projects. Capacity building and organization of trainings: Support capacity building initiatives for faculty members and researchers, including internal seminars and learning events on research funding and research opportunities; Develop annual training calendar for faculty members and researchers, prepare training budgets and oversee the organization and delivery of trainings; In cooperation with the Director of ORD, recruit professional trainers through initiating contacts and partnerships with external institutions. Publication and Research Dissemination: Support the development, planning and organization of research dissemination events in various formats (book launch, public lecture/presentation, workshops, conferences etc.); Increase visibility of research outputs to interested public and other academic institutions; Oversee technical aspect of publications (research outputs), including working with proofreaders, editors, translators, publication designers etc. Required Qualifications and Experience University degree in a relevant field, MA degree is highly desirable A minimum of 5 years experience in research support administration & grant management, preferably in a higher education institution, research institutions or in a research funder setting; Experience in coordinating research work of large number of faculty members or researchers; Understanding of the global research funding landscape Experience in working with donor institutions, including drafting of donor reports; Excellent communication and writing skills in English, knowledge of Russian desirable; Ability to work independently; Strong organizational skills and proven ability to multi-task and manage deadlines; Excellent problem-solving skills; Keen attention to detail; Excellent team-player with good interpersonal skills; Relevant computer skills using MS Office applications; Knowledge of SAP is an asset; Ability to travel to UCA programmatic areas and internationally as required How to Apply Ready to join our team?
