Mapbox is building a live location platform. Our maps represent the ever-evolving world, accessing, aggregating, and adapting anonymous data from millions of sensors and phones in real-time. Mapbox has the exciting opportunity to power devices and products across the next frontier in location-based data. Whether you’re watching the delivery of your grocery order on Instacart, tracking your personal best mile on Strava, sending snaps on Snapchat, monitoring your gas budget on Metromile, or checking today’s forecast on The Weather Channel, Mapbox is the location and maps within those apps. We’re changing how people move by live-mapping the world. What You’ll Do As a product designer on Mapbox’s automotive team, you will work with our OEMs, Mapbox engineers, and Mapbox’s own automotive designers to define the next generation of driver experiences, vehicles, and infotainment systems, for a global audience. Research automotive and cartography industry trends and best practices Propose and promote next generation features for Mapbox products and services Develop wide explorations of possible solutions to driver needs Determine, with colleagues and customers, design problems, and solutions, to pursue Evangelize the design process within Mapbox Deliver documentation and design assets to Mapbox engineers Help Mapbox designers do their best work through feedback and critique Grow your own skill sets as a designer and design leader What We Believe are Important Traits for This Role You are an expert in the art and science of user interface design techniques You understand and design for the needs of embedded hardware in automotive contexts You bringing your personal creative inspirations to the work your create You understand and employ human-centered design processes You creatively employ and combine multiple data sources into compelling UI You proactively seek feedback for your work at each step of the design process You incorporate user research techniques throughout the development of your work You conduct broad explorations before committing to a single direction You are not afraid to revisit design principles based on new information You deliver refined user interface layouts rooted in design system principles You understand how design work is built in software, and plan for engineering needs You work with and push engineering teams to ensure output that matches design intent What We Value In addition to our core values, which are not unique to this position and are necessary for Mapbox leaders: We value high-performing creative individuals who dig into problems and opportunities.
